Cooperative Play
MindMonsters is for 1 to 3 players. In multiplayer games, we emphasize cooperative play. Players communicate with one another to understand how to strategize, learn what each other needs, and trade cards to help one another.
Changelings
A Changeling transforms to take the place of any Spell or Charm to help complete a Combo hand
Made Better By
Playtesting
We make time to playtest MindMonsters with different groups including children-only, child and adult, and all-adult. Our goal is to learn from the many different people interested in playing.
One of the most exciting things we see is how the game’s story and characters can open up social and emotional conversations about feelings and needs. We are so very happy to help make that possible!
Addie, 9 yr old
It’s a really fun game, and it helps with anxiety if you have it. You’re defeating or befriending your anxieties.
Josh, 34 yr old
I like how it is geared towards building a story and including vocabulary (I am an English teacher). There is also a subtle mental health component that I think is valuable in today’s environment.
Cyndi, 69 yr old
The stories had the girls using their imagination. The monsters were very detailed and engaging and helped them talk about their feelings.
Made Using
Design Process
We created MindMonsters as a team of experienced designers, researchers and educators using techniques including design thinking, rapid prototyping and usability testing.
Research
Applying training and experience in design, psychology and education, Co-Creators Umit and Tessa took great interest in how people can incorporate mindfulness practices in their daily lives in the face of anxiety and stress.
Both long-time gamers, they quickly started exploring how to make their ideas work in a game-based format and developed the necessary game mechanics for MindMonsters.
Design
MindMonsters is a game based on design principles. Our team’s plan has been to focus on a real problem, develop empathy for people facing it, create design solutions using rapid prototyping techniques, and iterate based on findings from frequent user testing.
We love designing for people, and MindMonsters’ design DNA will hopefully connect well with people in our Kickstarter launch!
